Lavaya Taylor is a Senior Instrumental Major with a specialty in Bass Clarinet. She has a passion for poetry and reading. She finds solace in writing poetry as it allows her to express all her feelings.

Below is a portrait silhouette/double exposure photo project that she recently completed in her Studio in Media Arts class to accompany her poem.

I am a writer and a daughter

I wonder what my life has in store

I hear the voices telling me I can’t

I see the doubt in their eyes

I want my dreams and aspirations to be fulfilled

I pretend that I’m okay when in reality

I feel dark and confused

I like to think I’m In touch with my feelings

I worry that I won’t be enough

I cry when I’m alone

I understand that life is hard

I say I’m calm but inside I’m outraged

I feel like a fireball of burning flesh

I dream of the perfect fantasy of a life were these feelings disappear

I try my hardest to fight these emotions but can’t

I hope one day these emotions can fade and I can live up to my name and legacy

I am a writer and a daughter
