High school students are now able to register for the 2nd Annual Lorna C. Hill Speaking Contest!
Preliminary competitions take place January 30-February 1, 2023 at the student's high school.
The final competition takes place on February 8, 2023 at the Historic Ujima Theatre in Buffalo, NY.
Contest winners are prized with a three-day all-expenses paid cultural excursion to New York City to see a Broadway Play.
Lorna C. Hill was a graduate of Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts and holds a multitude of local and national recognitions. She was an actor, director and producer from the Buffalo area. She founded the Ujima Theatre Company, Inc. and was the Artistic Director as well. She graduated from Dartmouth College in 1973 with a B.A. in American Intellectual History followed by an M.A. in Theatre from University of NY at Buffalo in 1978. She taught theatre at Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts until 2014 when she retired.
Ujima Company multi-ethnic and multicultural professional theatre. Its primary purpose is the preservation, perpetuation, and performance of African American theatre.
