FOOD DRIVE TO SUPPORT THE EAST SIDE COMMUNITY

Updated: Nov 10, 2022

Students and families of BAVPA will join together to host a food drive beginning Wednesday, May 17th, to Friday, the 27th. Drop items during the school day in the Gym or Room 210. We accept fruit, canned, boxed, and other non-perishable items.

Students are welcome to take items from these bins as needed, with the remainder to be donated to Feed More WNY at 91 Holt Street, Buffalo, New York 14206.

The events of Saturday, May 14th, where an 18-year-old white man drove three hours from Conklin, New York, to Tops Market on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo, New York, and shot thirteen people, spurred students to get involved and support the impacted community.

The Tops on Jefferson Avenue is a supermarket that serves an area with little access to low-cost, healthy selections.

Jefferson Avenue is currently blocked off, and there are further plans to block off other nearby streets. It is uncertain how long this will last or how long it will take to renovate or rebuild the Tops. Most people in this area do not have access to cars or transportation to get to grocery stores located farther away.

The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts (BAVPA) sits less than a mile away from Tops. A large percentage of students, staff, and the school community have been directly affected by this horrific event. If you would like to get involved in this student-driven support team, contact Ms. Murray in room 210 or mmurray3@buffaloschools.org.
