Principal's Message

Dear Class of 2022:

What a year it has been, but you’ve made it! Throughout the hardships that these past couple of years have presented, it has also offered an abundance of memories that will be embedded in your hearts and minds. Memories are a collection of images, emotions, and experiences that shape and guide our very being.

You may have memories of the day you came to audition. You nervously entered the studio of what later became the space where you studied and rehearsed countless hours to develop your craft. Imagine your first days at the Arts Academy, the grand time on the main stage, the intimacy of a black box performance, the roaring applause from your parents and friends in the audience, the birthday songs in the cafeteria, or celebrations of school pride during our pep rallies. These are the great memories that we hold on to.

There are also memories that have evoked emotions of sadness, fear, or uncertainty. We cannot necessarily erase incidents that have caused pain in our lives; however, we can learn to cope and to “make the most of it.” I know it’s easier said than done. Take time to pause and reflect on the good times. This will often overshadow the dark times. Those challenging encounters are quickly diminished by memories of laughter with friends, dancing to your favorite songs at the prom, receiving the acceptance letter to your college of choice, the day we were able to take off our masks, or the fondest memory of all…. the delicious smells of lunch.

The best thing about memories is making them. As you advance in your choices in life, know that you are building a collection of everything up to that exact moment. This will lead to making impactful memories. Memories that may last a lifetime. Therefore, continue to dream big and envision the memories that have yet to happen - your future goals!

Congratulations Class of 2022! The Arts Academy will forever remember the class that brought us back to a sense of normalcy, and for that, we will hold you fondly in our memories!

Artistically yours,

Ms. J. Covington, Principal
